Simple Dea-lite #7

Turning on Pandora not remembering the last "station" I had on and the first song being the perfect raining weather song to start my day.

Oh Bon Iver how I love thee. I usually let him sing me to sleep but today makes for the perfect wake up call.
Enjoy!

December concert #5

Horse Feathers @ The Echo Wednesday, December 15, 2010

The night started at El Prado bar which is across the street from The Echo.  My friends Adela and Leslie showed up a bit after and we all enjoyed some good conversation and alcohol before we headed over to the show.

Once we go there it wasn't too packed which is exactly how I like it.
We sat on the patio a bit to wait for them to go on. They were great live and the combination of my buzz and their music made for the perfect evening.

Nights like those are why I enjoy spending time with friends and experiencing the same things together.

Here are some photos from the show:

December concert #4

KROQ's Almost Acoustic X-Mas Night 2 December 12, 2010

I had the amazing luck of getting tickets as soon as they went on sale for night 2 (they sold out in 13 min!)
My friend Ali wanted to go so I helped purchase tickets. She told me I had to come with her and it was a fabulous time.

We watched all band and artists except for Brandon Flowers, who neither of us were interested in watching.

Here's a rundown of the lineup and some pictures.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

Broken Bells

The Temper Trap

Neon Trees

Florence and the Machine

The Black Keys

Brandon Flowers (No pics)

Vampire Weekend

Phoenix

Other randoms taken with Retro Camera on my phone.

It was a great concert and Ali and I had a blast.
As you can tell by our faces!

December concert #3

Delta Spirit @ The Music Box (The Fonda) Wednesday, December 8th.

One of the best things about going to The Fonda is that Blue Palms bar is right next door and you can go between the two. This makes every concert there an instant winner. Went with Bill and missed the first band, because of said bar, and so we started with the band Darker My Love. They put on a fun show, wasn't sure what to expect from them but was pleasantly surprised.

Next came Delta Spirit. I know some songs from the one cd I own and did not expect the show we got from listening to that cd. It was intense, rockin, and extremely fun.

December concert #2

On Friday, December 3rd I went to concert #2 for December.
Fences @ The Bootleg Theatre in L.A.
I love that venue. It's small, intimate and reminds me of all the shows I used to go to as a teen.
Fences is a really good band that reminds me of a mix of Conor Oberst, Elliott Smith, and Gary Lightbody.
I do think a few of the songs just need a little something extra but I'm still a fan.

December concerts

Yesterday marks the first show I am going to in the month of December.

There will be a total of six concerts this month and since I haven't posted in a while what better way to rekindle my relationship with my blog.

Yesterday I accompanied the lovely Malinda to see Brooke Fraser at the El Rey. Though I didn't know any of her music and had only listened briefly it was a great show. We arrived just before she came on and her backing band was great. I especially enjoyed the bass thumping songs she played, about 2 or 3 of them. She is from Australia and quite witty while she was up there. She reminds Malinda of Ann Hathaway and reminds me of Kate Voegele or other artists like that who get played on all those CW shows.

Very interesting mix of people and definitely more male bodies than I would have expected to see there.

No pictures of the show but here is a video of Brooke

Festive

I'm already starting to get into the christmas spirit at work by decorating my computer monitor. Thanksgiving isn't here yet but it's time to prepare for the giving season!

Yay for holiday fun!

Hey, girl with one eye

Graceful, Elegant, Flowing, and Theatrical

Those are the four words that describe Florence Welch when she performs. Her band was magnificent and the harp player knows how to dig into your soul.

I must say it was a unique experience.

My camera doesn't like to take pictures in the dark so this is what I have to show for it.

Simple Dea-lite #117

It's been fall for over a month but yesterday was the first day it really felt like it.
It was extremely windy and there were finally crunchy leaves all over the place.
One of my favorite things to do as a kid and now is step on dry leaves to hear them crunch.
It's like a mini therapy session, and it's free!

I hope the weather continues this way for a while!

In the shadow of your heart

I'm going to see Florence & the Machine tomorrow.

I'm beyond ecstatic and I might even get to see them Monday as well.

This song is my favorite when it's done acoustically. She is extremely talented and her voice is so beautiful. Pictures will most likely be posted later.

Inspiration

Last month the boyfriend and I decided to take a trip to the Glendale Forest Lawn.
I heard from an old coworker that it was exceedingly gorgeous.

I didn't know how large it actually is and now I'm in love.

There is so much more than just graves and headstones. There are plenty of statues, areas to visit, and views beyond belief.

Here are some pictures from that day.

My favorite part is that they name each section (so it's easier to find your loved ones) and the beautiful names they give the areas. This one was fitting as Tino and I drove by.

Seattle Recap

I left Friday night to Seattle to visit my amazing friend who I hadn't seen in a little over a year.
My view from the plane was spectacular.

I got there late Friday and Natasha was working so I hung out with her until she closed.
Saturday we went to eat brunch at this cute little place that was converted from a house into a restaurant. Then we went to the U-district to walk around and check out some thrift stores.
We then went to trader joes to grab some stuff for a picnic we would be having before The National concert.

The show was amazing. Okkervil River opened the show and they were pretty good. When The National came on we abandoned our blanket and picnic stuff to enjoy them from a much closer distance.

Here are a bunch of pics from that night

The next day, Sunday, her boyfriend made breakfast, we watched a little bit of football and then went to a few local places I read about.

First stop the Fremont troll
We went to the Fremont Marketplace after that to walk around the little booths. Nothing really fancied my liking so I didn't buy anything. We also went to Theo chocolate to pick some up since it's some of the best chocolate I've ever had.

Then we went to Ballard to visit the Edith Macefield "Up" house.
It's a house this woman wouldn't sell to developers and so they had to build around it. She passed away a little after she refused to sell her house, though it still remains...probably because people would object to it being torn down.

Then we stopped at Trophy Cupcakes in Wallingford. It's so pretty there.

Natasha had to work Sunday night  :(  so we headed home so she could get ready. I walked to a local used bookstore and bought 4 books. It was a nice walk, makes me wish we had cute little stores just as close so I could walk to those. Her boyfriend made us dinner, then we headed to her bar to hang out.
Tino's old roommate and his girlfriend happened to be visiting at the same time so they came up to hang out as well. I talked to a lot of locals that night and I think that's the night I felt like I understood a little more about people and their environment.

Monday was very relaxing. Natasha made a delicious breakfast, we headed to Ballard to get more cupcakes from Cupcake Royale and some Stumptown coffee. Then we went to Mr. Gyro for lunch before I left to come home and make myself snap back to reality and the responsibilities I have.
